Kelvin Dewayne Cowans

Kelvin Dewayne Cowans aka 6'4" has been a Freelance Writer for The Tri-State Defender since 2011. He is the Founder of "Life is Easy, Dreams are Hard" Production Company. He is credited with the creation of three columns "That Just Might Work", "Fresh Fruit" and "Good Blue And You". His interviews have made the Front Page 40 Times and he has been nominated for Memphis "Best in Black Awards", Author Category 2012, 2013, 2015. Once the Executive Editor and Lead Writer for Evans Elementary monthly News Letter 1986, his passion for writing never wavered but took a back seat to the immediate tangibles of life. Some College (Chattanooga State, Shelby State, Memphis State) but more "streets" would prove to be his undoing. Incarcerated at West Tennessee Sate Penitentiary at the age of 25 in 2002 on Aggravated Robbery and Theft Convictions, those three years of solitude would serve as a reminder of his true talent, writing. While incarcerated he wrote (200) Songs, (25) Poems and (2) Books. Since his release on November 22, 2004 he has gone ahead to write another (35) Songs, (10) Poems (3) books and a play while also being named the 1st Male Television Host/Producer/Theme Song Writer of TNOBC "Olivision" from 2005-2009. Along with his numerous interviews of some of the most influential Celebrities in America and Community Activist he has also worked beside many of Memphis Tennessee's most progressive Leaders and Entertainers.
