One up and one down for Tigers in WNIT

Quick thinking, dominant defense, collective ball handling and back-to-back scoring were all plentiful as the University of Memphis Women's Basketball team started its regular season with an opening-round route of Grambling State University (Nov. 9) at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

Out-rebounding Grambling 49-31, the Tigers played fast and furious in bringing home a 92-42 victory.

Tigers seek back-to-back wins after Tulane victory

The University of Memphis football Tigers only had three games left on their schedule –Tulane, UAB and Southern Miss – heading into last weekend and those remaining opponents only had four total wins between them.

With that knowledge, it looked as if Memphis had a good chance to win some games over the last quarter of the season and take some momentum into the off-season.

Getting the home stretch started right, Memphis recorded a "W" (Nov. 10) over the Tulane Green Wave. The Tigers won 37-23 with their most dominant performance of the year.

In the True Blue Nation of University of Memphis Tigers men's basketball, an exhibition game is an opportunity to practice big-time fandom. And a large crowd gathered on Wednesday night (Nov. 7) to watch their Tigers take on the Christian Brothers University Buccaneers at the FedExForum.

Memphis enters the season ranked 16th or 17th in the nation, depending on which poll you trust. Their opponent, CBU, was no slouch, ranking 16th in the D-2 polls.

Tigers stay focused amid a tunnel of losses

It gets harder every week trying to find the "light" in the latest loss by University of Memphis Tigers' football team. And if it's tough for the media, it has to be extremely taxing on the Memphis players.

The Tigers lost to Marshall last weekend (Nov. 3), sinking to 1-8 on the season, which would be enough to frustrate even the most steadfast. Yet, Memphis is staying positive.

Trending: Same old start for Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies extended their season-opener losing streak to twelve on Wednesday (Oct. 31) at the Staples Center where they fell to the Los Angeles Clippers 101-92 in a game of runs filled with exciting highs and lows.

The two teams, rightfully so, have developed a new NBA rivalry. Picking up where they left off from last season, game one showed high levels of intensity and glimpses of promise from a Grizz team looking for redemption.
