The seeds just can't stop tumbling out of Wimbledon and on Monday it was the turn of world No.1 and five-time champion Serena Williams to experience that sinking feeling.

The American crashed out of the grass court grand slam in the last-16 following a shock defeat by Germany's Sabine Lisicki – her first reverse in 34 matches.

Favorite for the title, Williams lost the opening set 6-2 before roaring back to level a pulsating contest by taking the second 6-1.

‘Hard way’ Joerger ready to grit and grind as Grizz new head coach

Saying he came up "the hard way" – 10 years in the minor leagues – David Joerger made his Memphis debut as head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday.

During a press conference at the FedExForum, Joerger, who had been an assistant to Lionel Hollins, said his minor-league experience ran the gamut – from being the general manager and head coach to lining up the halftime entertainment and picking up the towels.

"I have an appreciation for being in the NBA," said Joerger, "and I have an appreciation for being in this position."

While tennis star Serena Williams is busy apologizing for her comments around the Steubenville rape case, it seems she also targeted her old rival Maria Sharapova during a recent Rolling Stone interview. In response to Williams calling her boring, Sharapova released a few jabs of her own during a pre-Wimbledon press conference on Saturday, according to the New York Post.

"At the end of the day, we have a tremendous amount of respect for what we do on the court. I just think she should be talking about her accomplishments, her achievements, rather than everything else that's just getting attention and controversy," Sharapova said.
