The 32nd Music Pioneer Awards – presented by United Music Heritage, Inc. – included a special salute to Golden Gate Cathedral’s Bishop Edward Stephens, featuring the Golden Gate Choir.

Dan Greer, United Music Heritage, Inc. director, presented the award, along with recording artist and international entertainer Toni Green, who served as the evening’s hostess.

Other awards went to:

  • Most Promising New Artists – Carolyn Griffey and Nick Black;
  • Lifetime Achievement – Pat Halloran, Orpheum director and producer;
  • Community Service – WATN anchor and author;
  • Music – Total Package Band/Soul City Horns & Erma Shaw – Pioneer.

The awards show gala was highlighted by a tribute to Chuck Berry. Musical tributes were performed by Kenny Jackson, Tony Hall, Queen Ann Hines, Preston Shannon, Percy Wiggins, Spencer Wiggins, Thomas Bingham and Legends of Music Memphis.
