The three-day community awareness program, “The Importance of Our Survival,” includes a leaders forum, a community health fair, and a church mini-sermon tour. Free health screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and BMI (body mass index) will be offered at the ABC Super Weekend Saturday Health Fair on April 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 pm at Hickory Ridge Mall, 6075 Winchester. Local ABC host and member is Dr. Charles H. Brown.
According to Dr. Brown, the purpose of the ABC Super Weekend is to increase community awareness of the high incidence of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), to identify high risk patients, and to emphasize effective modification of risk factors by utilization the “7 Steps to a Healthy Heart.”
The seven steps include: (1) Be spiritually active, (2) Take charge of your blood pressure, (3) Control your cholesterol, (4) Track your blood sugar, (5) Eat smart, enjoy regular exercise, (6) Don’t smoke, and (7) Access better healthcare.
