The Lady Magicians were on the short end of 76-63 score in a game played against the Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State at Bruce Hall last Saturday (Dec. 3).
In the first half, the Lady Magicians tied the game 7-7 on a made three point basket by guard Jasmine Massey assisted by Tiffany Simpson with just under 14 minutes to go in the half. From there it was a back & forth match for the remaining part of the half, with the Lady Magicians taking the lead 19-18 with 7 minutes left in the half.
Fort Valley tied the game up and took the lead 30-29 with just 2 minutes left. However, the Lady Wildcats capitalized on the Lady Magician’s turnovers and back-to-back missed shots, giving them the lead at the half 34-29.
In the second half, the Lady Magicians went on a small run tying the game up 34-34 with 18:09 remaining. The Lady Wildcats responded with an 11-0 run off of several turnovers by the Lady Magicians, pushing the lead to eleven (45-34) with 15 minutes to go.
The Lady Magicians called a timeout to stop the run, but to no avail as the Lady Wildcats pushed the lead to 57-42 around the 9-minute mark. LOC would make one more push, going on a 13-4 run on a made three-point basket by Shonice Sprouse. That cut the lead to six points with 3:30 left in the game.
Undaunted, Fort Valley regrouped, pushing the lead back to twelve with only 1:37 left in the game and pulled out the victory.
Sprouse led the Lady Magicians with 17 points and 9 rebounds while Jasmine Massey added 14 points and 3 steals.
The Lady Magicians shot 24-62 (39 percent) from the field, 8-29 (28 percent) from the three-point line and 7-14 (50 percent) from the free throw line.
The Lady Magicians play Miles College in Fairfield, Ala., on Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
