A baseball with the authenticated autographs of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will be the featured item auctioned during the March of Dimes March for Babies campaign on Saturday (May 7) afternoon at St. George Independent School, located at 1880 Wolf River Blvd.
Signed photos by Michael Jackson, popular “Peanuts” character Snoopy signed by creator Charles Schultz, a Grizzlies game ball signed by Mike Conley and other memorabilia will also be auctioned off.
Event coordinator Aiesha Dickey said the idea for the auction and show was inspired by seeing the “magnificent” work March of Dimes services provide for parents of kids stricken with birth disabilities. Dickey’s now 9-year-old daughter, Lavender Jackson, was born with cochlear hearing loss, causing a permanent 70 percent hearing loss.
“But because of the programs and services March of Dimes helps to provide, we have been able to overcome her difficulties and she’s a bright, wonderful child,” said Dickey, who regularly chaperoned Lavender at audiolocgial therapy classes that the March of Dimes sponsored at the University of Memphis.
“I had always been a regular supporter through the Walk-A-Thon, but when I learned of my daughter’s need and saw first hand how MD’s people truly personalize their care, I’ve always wanted to do more. This is a chance to take my passion for fashion and create something good to benefit others. Strut your stuff MD!”
