Just to think, there was all WATER along Riverside drive last week, and then on Saturday, there were all PEOPLE! They all came out to see one of the funkiest bands in music. Although it would have been nice to hear some of the Bar-Kays hits from the 80’s…you know Traffic Jammer, Sex O Matic and Anticipation? However, that wasn’t why they were there. They were there to pay tribute to Stax and the great music that was produced by the label…and that they did!

It was an electrifying night on the River this year and I’m looking forward to 2012. Will it get any funkier than this year, I’m not sure. If you wanna know two really cool guys, get to know Larry Dodson and James Alexander. Oh, before I forget, Thanks to my Dr. Menthia P. Clark who is not only my coworker at Soul Classics 103.5, she was also my co-host during the show as we introduced the Symphony, The Barkays performance and the Fireworks at the end of the show.
Sunday, it was time to head back to the gym so that I could work off that Philly Cheese steak sandwich and cheese fries I ate while I was working. Oh, yeah, I forgot about that funnel cake too. Special event food is so great, but you end up paying for it twice.
Ladies, make plans to spend time at the Cook Convention Center! This weekend is just for you. This is the weekend of the Annual Sisterhood Showcase and as always, you don’t wanna miss it. Each year the Showcase features live entertainment from such artist as Ginuine, Joe and others. This year’s headliner is none other than Mr. “My My My” himself, Johnny Gill. Aside from Gill, you can enjoy music from other artists such as Bobby V., Glenn Jones and Memphis own King Ellis. Comedian Rickey Smiley will be making an appearance as well. Be sure to get your tickets in advance at all Schnucks locations. They will be only $15. However, the day of the event, tickets will be $20 and will only be available at the Cook Convention Center. It kicks off at noon on this Saturday. So put it on your schedule.
