What’s Happening Myron? 2012: Year in Review

It's time for my annual push – five years running – at recapping most of the memorable moments of the past year. Here we go:

In the world of music

Beyoncé gave birth to her first child, Blue Ivy. This is perhaps the richest African-American baby ever born.

"Chrihanna" made their return in 2012. Chris Brown and Rihanna that is.

Quincy Jones is finally gonna be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I guess producing one of the greatest and highest-selling albums of all times wasn't quite enough...neither was winning 27 Grammys and holding the title for Most Grammy Awards won by a producer. However, better late than never though right?

And speaking of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, hip-hop's Public Enemy became the fourth rap group to be inducted.

Tupac made his return via hologram at this year's Coachella Music Festival.

In an interesting, but odd career move, rapper Snoop Dogg announced that he's tired of hip-hop and is embracing reggae, instead of the culture of guns he once rapped about. He also changed his name to Snoop Lion.

In other news

In 2012, President Barack Obama won a second term in the White House, dusting Republican Mitt Romney.

Kanye West and Kim Kardshian became one of the year's hottest couples.

In really surprising news, Usher got custody of his two sons just weeks after his ex-wife, Tamika Foster, lost her oldest son to an jet-ski accident.

Rapper Nicki Minaj became one of the judges on "American Idol," but not without a grand entrance as she and Mariah Carey started off on a not-so-great note that involved talks of violence and weapons.

Manny Pacquiao was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez pretty much ending all chances of a match with Floyd 'Money' Mayweather Jr.

Katt Williams mentally left the planet this year and as I write this column, he still seems to be on an interesting adventure.

Halle Berry's ex and current boyfriends went head-to-head over Thanksgiving dinner.

For the first time in its 61-year history, Jet Magazine showcased its first male wedding couple.

Oprah enlisted Tyler Perry to produce content for her struggling OWN Television Network.

Puppeteer Kevin Clash, the voice of "Sesame Street's" Elmo, left the show after allegations of sexual abuse. Elmo's future still hangs in the balance.

Tough times for the NFL

Terrell Owens found himself back at work but only for a short time after being cut by the Seattle Seahawks.

Chad Ochocinco had an altercation with his wife, Evelyn. She ended up on the receiving end of a head butt, with the altercation another step toward the demise of their marriage.

Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent was arrested for drunk driving and charged with manslaughter after a car he was driving crashed and killed his teammate Jerry Brown Jr.

The Brent episode happened less than seven days after Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend before driving to the Chiefs' facilities and committing suicide in front of his coach.

Last but not least

We lost many of our beloved singers, actors and other entertainers.

We all were shocked at the news of Whitney Houston's passing, as well as actor Michael Clark Duncan.

We also lost disco queen Donna Summer, jazz legend Etta James and "Go Go" music king Chuck Brown.

We also said goodbye to Sherman Hemsley, the man who will always be known to generations as George Jefferson.

And, of course, we note the suicide of the conductor of the Soul Train, Don Cornelius.

Parting shot!

So there you have it...the best and worst of 2012!

You can expect great things and great events for 2013! And when they happen, I'll be talking about them.

May you have a wonderful, safe and Happy New Year! Until then, that's what happened! See you next year!
