Calling all writers!

The Southern Black Writers Conference and Film Festival kicks off this week with a full slate, including seminars, workshops and film screenings. Calling all local writers, novelists and filmmakers! You will want to make this entry in your event calendar: The Southern Black Writers Conference and Film Festival (SBWCFF) kicks off this week with a full slate, including seminars, workshops and film screenings.

Among the films that will be showcased this year is “Jumping the Broom,” featuring Angela Basset and Mike Epps.

“The producer of this film is a good friend of mine,” says Lawrence Wayne, the founder and creator of the SBWCFF. “The film is also co-produced by Tracey Edmonds and T.D. Jakes and has a great list of actors in it, looking forward to the Thursday screening at the Malco Cordova Theatre.”

Tyler Perry’s latest film, “Madea’s Big Happy Family” will be screened as a part of the new “Breakfast and a Movie” session. The film will be shown at the Hilton and will include a full breakfast as well.

“The conference will prove to be a resource for those looking to start a career in writing, as the opportunity to network with other writers will be plentiful. The conference will also allow the attendee the chance to meet established writers right here in Memphis,” says Wayne. “So that they won’t have to travel to meet them, we’re gonna bring them to you.”

There’s even a poetry slam with an artist networking show. If you can sing, dance or recite poetry, you get 5 minutes to showcase your talent.
