This month, a panel of experts have been assembled to discuss the question that burns in the mind of every business owner, whether small or large – how to pursue and raise the capital needed to sustain and grow their business.

The panelists include Joy Richmond Bowen, Vice President of the Diversity Banking Group at First Tennessee; Joshua Shipley, Vice President of Commercial Lending at Independent Bank; Dorothy Cleaves, 1st Vice Present of Private Banking at Paragon National Bank; and Shawn Thomas, Senior Vice President-Lending at Tri-State Bank.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Derrick Joyce, who has 15 years of experience in finance and investments and is one of the past Presidents of 100 Black Men of Memphis, Inc.

“As a small business, by definition you have fewer assets to leverage compared to larger business entities. Whether a business is in start-up mode or in an expansion stage, capital is the lifeblood of determining how vigorously the business’ goals can be pursued and ultimately achieved,” said Donnell Cobbins, COO/Vice President of Universal Commercial Real Estate.

“Whether its start-up capital, working capital, or equity investment, every business owner has to contemplate how best to tap the available financial resources that support their company’s viability”

Darrell Cobbins, President/CEO of Universal, said, “As a small, minority-owned business, we understand well the day-to-day challenges of working to grow your business. That’s what makes this series of breakfasts unique. Because of our position as an MBE, we know what issues are most relevant and will likely most interest other entrepreneurs who are searching for advice and solutions to those everyday challenges.”
